SEND Personal Assistants - Curiosity Club Holiday Activities
Curiosity Productions are looking for compassionate and energetic personal assistants to support SEND children with complex needs to participate in Curiosity Club creative holiday activities this August.
We are interested to hear from applicants who are committed to inclusive practice, and can encourage and support children's independence, social interactions, and communication.
Curiosity Club provides playful, inclusive, creative opportunities for children in Heath Town, Wolverhampton. Participants include children who have additional emotional and support needs and children who are care-experienced.
Pay and hours
Fixed term part-time role.
£15 per hour, up to 5 hours per day up to 4 days a week between 11th and 29th August. Plus a briefing session 1pm-5pm Wednesday 6th August.
Possible working hours between 9.30am and 2.30pm, possibly less depending on the length of attendance of the child you are supporting.
This will be an employed role, tax and NI will be deducted if this income takes you over your personal tax allowance.
Location: All workshops to take place at St Patrick’s Church Hall, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, WV10 0QQ (near New Cross Hospital and Bentley Bridge)
Job description
The role will primarily be a personal assistant role, working 1to1 with a child. You may also be asked to assist with set-up and general running of sessions when the child you are supporting is not present.
The role will include:
- Providing 1 to 1 support for a child with complex needs to enable them to participate as independently as possible in the creative sessions.
- Support with eating snacks and lunch. This may include ensuring that they do not eat anything that they are allergic to, or should not eat.
- Support with toileting or changing (you will be supported by a 2nd member of staff when doing this)
- Supporting the child with negotiating challenges, managing emotions and interactions.
- Communicating with the parents/ carers of the child to ensure you fully understand their needs and to provide feedback on their participation in the sessions.
- Setting up and clearing the space with the Curiosity team when the child you are supporting is not present.
Person specification – essential
- A commitment to equity, access and inclusion.
- Experience of working with children.
- Strong communication skills, particularly face to face.
- Caring, compassionate and considerate.
- Understand the importance of choice and control to an individual and their parent/carer.
- Understand that the individual and/or parent/carer directs the support.
- Have the ability to develop strong, trusting relationships.
Desirable
- Experience of working with children with additional emotional and/ or support needs.
- Disability communication skills
- Awareness and understanding of Makaton
- Awareness and understanding of PECS
- First Aid Trained.
- Qualified to administer medication.
- Epilepsy trained.
- Food Hygiene and/ or allergy awareness trained.
